ThunderWolves clinch playoff spot with win at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Mountain Lion Stadium) - The CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team clinched the sixth-seed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Sunday with a 4-0 shutout win at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

Playing in its biggest game since 2008, CSU-Pueblo went into Mountain Lion Stadium and used a strong offensive attack early. The Pack struck first in the 19th minute, gaining possession in Mountain Lion territory and Danelle Dondelinger (Fr., Midfielder, Louisville, Colo.) volleyed a pass into the box to Laikyn Koss (R-Fr., Midfielder, Riverside, Calif.) who fired a shot past the diving goalkeeper for the early lead.

With the one goal lead at halftime, CSU-Pueblo held a 7-3 shot advantage.

The Pack kept the momentum into the second half, taking a 2-0 lead on a shot by Amanda Jorgensen (Jr., Forward, Wailuku, Hawai'i), who fired to the back of the net just two minutes into the final period.

Defensively the Pack played stellar defense, earning its sixth shutout of the season, holding UCCS to eight shots and just two on frame in the contest.

In the 62nd minute, Jorgensen recieved a beautiful pass from Koss, netting her second goal of the game to extend the Pack lead to 3-0. It is goal numbers three and four this season for Jorgensen.

CSU-Pueblo had six players with multiple shot opportunities, with Koss leading the way with five.

Koss earned her second goal of the game and fourth this season, in the 72nd minute to pad the lead 4-0. Brittany Kliesen (Sr., Forward, Pueblo, Colo.) was credited with the assist, her first of the year.

The Pack finished the game outshooting the Mountain Lions 21-8 and a 3-2 corner kick advantage.

Pack goalkeeper Jenn Rucker (Sr., Renton, Wash.) earned the shutout, making two saves on eight shots.

The ThunderWolves (7-8-2, 5-7-2 RMAC) will make its first appearance in the conference tournament since Nov. 8, 2008, when they lost 1-0 at Fort Lewis.
