Two first half goals doom ThunderWolves
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 28, 2011) - The CSU-Pueblo women's soccer team fell to the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls Friday night losing 3-0. The Cowgirls scored two first half goals against the Pack and added a third goal for insurance in the second half.
The ThunderWolves appeared to have control of the game in the early stages but a pass from Autumn Woods sprung Janelle McGee passed the last defender. McGee then calmly tucked the ball away to the near post passed a charging keeper.
The Cowgirls would add a goal ten minutes later on a penalty kick taken by Britny Cottrell. A Cowgirls forward was dribbling in the box before a tackle from a ThunderWolf defender drew the foul.
CSU-Pueblo worked hard to even the score, as they have all season, but they were unable to score any goals.
Angela Mendoza (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.) offered the best chance for the Pack to score but her kick just went wide to keep the shutout alive for Highlands.
Autumn Woods added a goal in the second half for insurance when a shot by Julissa Rodriguez hit off the crossbar and back to Woods. Woods would finish her attempt to the upper right corner to put the Cowgirls up 3-0.
The Pack will play their final game of the season Sunday afternoon when they honor four seniors for senior day. Mendoza, Christensen, Gabby Gonzales (Sr., Centennial, Colo.) and Cameron Giebel (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) will all be honored before the ThunderWolves take on Colorado Mines. Kick off is scheduled for noon at the Rawlings Soccer Complex.
