COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (November 14, 2017) - Senior heavyweight Cody Johnson (Broken Arrow, Okla.) of the No. 7 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team has been honored as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
The honor is the first for the ThunderWolves this season and the first in Johnson's career.
Moving up a weight class this season, senior Johnson finished second at heavyweight at the Northern Colorado Open Saturday. Johnson went 4-1 at 285, which included two pin falls and three victories against Division I opponents. He won by a 14-9 decision, then two falls (2:16 and 4:09) moved him on in the championship side of the bracket. He advanced to the final with a 7-1 decision before losing the championship bout to the No. 7-ranked wrestler in Division II by a 3-2 decision.
Johnson and the ThunderWolves continue the season Nov. 18 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open in Kearney, Nebraska.
