Pack pins down No. 7 spot in Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Preseason Poll

PRESEASON POLL RELEASE

FAYETTE, Iowa (October 20, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo Wrestling program ranks No. 7 in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Preseason Poll, announced Friday. The ThunderWolves have five wrestlers ranked in the top 12 of their respective weight classes.

POLL METHODOLOGY: THIS IS A TOURNAMENT POWER INDEX RANKING. TPI POINT TOTALS ARE BROKEN DOWN BY THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS: 1ST=20PTS, 2ND=16PTS, 3RD=13PTS, 4TH=12PTS, 5TH=10PTS, 6TH=9PTS, 7TH=7PTS, 8TH=6PTS, 9TH=4PTS, 10TH=3PTS, 11TH=2PTS, 12TH=1PT. THE TPI POINT TOTALS WILL BE LOWER THAN THE FINAL ACTUAL NCAA TOURNAMENT POINTS BECAUSE IT DOES NOT INCLUDE BONUS POINTS. THIS RANKING WILL NOT INCLUDE TRUE FRESHMEN. 

The ranking is the highest for the team since restarting the program in 2008. 

For the ThunderWolves, returning All-American JaVaughn Perkins (So., Omaha, Neb.) is ranked No. 2 at 184. Three-time All-American JaCobi Jones (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) is ranked No. 3 at 165. Super Region Four Champion PT Garcia (Jr., Denver, Colo.) is ranked No. 7 at 133. National qualifier Kyle Fantin (Sr., Cave Creek, Ariz.) sits No. 8 at 157. Finally, newcomer and 2017 junior college national champion Preston Lauterbach (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) ranks No. 11 at 174. 

The Pack were picked to finish second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Garcia, Jared Mestas (Pueblo, Colo.) and Jones were Preseason All-RMAC.

CSU-Pueblo begins the season Nov. 4 at the Cowboy Open, hosted by the University of Wyoming.
