Pack Wrestling picked to finish second in the RMAC; Practice begins today

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 16, 2017) - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its preseason wrestling awards and rankings Monday and listed three members of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Wrestling team to Preseason All-RMAC and the team second in the 2017 Preseason Coaches Poll.

The ThunderWolves earned the 2017 RMAC Championship and totaled 54 points (one first-place vote) in the preseason poll. California Baptist was first with 63 points and seven first-place nods, while Colorado Mesa University rounded out the top three with 50 points (one first-place vote).

Named Preseason All-RMAC were seniors JaCobi Jones (Omaha, Neb.) and Jared Mestas (Pueblo, Colo.) and junior PT Garcia (Denver, Colo.). 

Jones was crowned RMAC Champion at 165 last season to earn All-RMAC First Team. Garcia (133) and Mestas (141) both finished third at the RMAC Championships.

The 2017-18 season begins today with the first offical practice for the Pack. The first competition is set for Nov. 4 at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyoming.

133 - PT Garcia (Jr., Denver, Colo.) - National Qualifier ... Super Region Four Champion ... Ranked No. 4 nationally entering the championships ... Posted a 16-6 overall record ... Went 3-0 at regionals to be crowned the champion  ... Totaled five pin falls ... Recorded a dual record of 9-1 with two pins, which included a 3-0 mark in RMAC bouts (one fall) ... Finished third at the RMAC Championships ... Named RMAC Wrestler of the Week on back-to-back weeks (Feb. 8 and Feb. 15) ... Won eight straight bouts and 14 of 15 matches entering the national championships.

141 - Jared Mestas (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) - Finished with a 11-10 overall record with one fall ... Recorded a 6-6 mark in dual competition, which included a 4-1 mark in conference duals ... Finished third at the RMAC Championships ... Went 2-3 at regionals and finished sixth.

165 - JaCobi Jones (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) - All-American ... All-RMAC First Team ... 2017 RMAC Champion ... Finished 8th at the national championships ... Entered the national championships ranked No. 6 ... Finished with a 19-9 overall record ... Went 3-1 at regionals and lost to then-No. 2 Calvin Ochs of UNK by a 3-2 decision in the title bout ... Totaled six falls ... Produced a 9-2 dual record with three falls ... Went a perfect 5-0 in RMAC duals ... Won nine of his last 10 bouts entering the national championships.
