ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 9, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo struggled at key weights Thursday, falling 34-7 to ninth-ranked Adams State in Alamosa.
CSU-Pueblo got two wins, but they came from arguably the Pack's top two wrestlers in terms of national ranking.
Jesse Hillhouse (Jr., Casper, Wyo.) converted perhaps his most important dual win of the season, besting Ryan Fillingame, the third-ranked 133-pounder in the nation, on a 5-3 decision. Hillhouse entered the match Thursday ranked second in the country. The win avenged a loss to Fillingame earlier this season, which was Hillhouse's only loss of the season to a Division II 133-pounder. He is now 27-5 on the year.
Adam Carey (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.), who had been ranked as high as 7th in the nation earlier this season at 184 pounds, turned in a convincing 17-6 major decision victory over Darian Roberts, who entered the match winless.
Unfortunately for the Pack, that was the extent of the wins on the night as Adams State emerged victorious in eight of ten matches.
CSU-Pueblo will close out its dual schedule next Wednesday when it hosts Chadron State at Massari Arena.
