ThunderWolves place two at Bob Smith Open

Hillhouse collects third tournament placing of the season.

HAYS, Kan. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 3, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo placed two wrestlers at the Fort Hays State University Bob Smith Open Saturday, including the third tournament placing of the season for Jesse Hillhouse (Jr., Casper, Wyo.).

Hillhouse, who was seeded third in the 35-member field at 133 pounds, lived up to the billing, winning three times, including two over Division I wrestlers, en route to a semifinal berth.  He would lose to second-seed and eventual champion Ryan Fillingame from Adams State.

But he rallied to collect two more wins, including a victory over top-seeded Trison Graham from Central Oklahoma, also the fourth-ranked wrestler in the country, as he would ultimately place third.

The Pack's other placer, Tim Urenda (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.), wrestling unattached, narrowly lost a decision to the top seed at 125 pounds and the third-ranked junior college wrestler in the country, Neodosha College's Jeff Vesta, before cruising through the consolation bracket, rattling off five straight wins before facing Vesta again in the consolation championship, falling again in a decision and placing fourth.

Several other ThunderWolves finished a win away from placing, including Nick Stahler (Jr., Palmer, Alaska) at 149 pounds and Bill Gray (So., Ordway, Colo.) at heavyweight.

The Bob Smith Open marked the final action for the ThunderWolves prior to the holiday break.  CSU-Pueblo will return to the mat Jan. 5 when it opens up its RMAC dual slate with Fort Hays State at Massari Arena.
