Ewing named RMAC Academic Player of the Year; Kam on the honor roll


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 3, 2018) - Just days after learning she would be competing at the NCAA regional, Colorado State University-Pueblo women's golf junior Courtney Ewing (Pueblo West, Colo.) was announced Thursday as the 2017-18 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Golf Academic Player of the Year.

Ewing owns a 3.98 GPA in biology and chemistry and was also named Academic All-RMAC First Team. Junior Jolene Kam (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia) was named Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll for the second straight year, as she owns a 3.78 GPA in business management (Marketing) and business administration. 

The award winners, along with the other First Team All-Academic members, were voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters.
All student-athletes that meet those requirements, but were not voted First Team, automatically qualify for Honor Roll.

Ewing will represent the ThunderWolves as an individual at the NCAA Division II West Region Championships, set for May 7-9 at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colorado. She finished tied for fifth at the RMAC Championships to lead the team to a tie for second. The ThunderWolves finished the regular season ranked No. 46 in the Golfstat Division II team rankings. The Pack placed in the top five on six occasions, which included three runner-up finishes, in nine tournaments in 2017-18. 


RMAC Academic Player of the Year ... Academic All-RMAC First Team ... NCAA Regional Qualifier as an individual ... Ranked No. 58 in the Golfstat Division II player rankings ... Finished the season with a 74.79 stroke average to rank No. 31 in NCAA Division II ... Totaled 49 birdies in 19 rounds of play ... Awarded RMAC Player of the Week on four occasions ... Finished top 5 four times and top 10 on five occasions with a top 20 placing in all nine tournaments ... Posted a medalist finish at the RMAC Championships were she tied for fifth at nine-over ... Carded a season-low round of 69 in the second round of the NCAA West Regional Preview Sept. 19, where she tied for second at +2.


Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll ... Recorded a stroke average of 78.8 for the season ... Posted a 77.1 stroke average in her final seven rounds of the season ... Finished T-12th at the RMAC Championships with scores of 76-78-77--231 (+15) ... Kam led the field with 38 pars and was +1 in Par 3 scoring at the Championships ... Carded a low round of 74 twice, at the Pack's fall home tournament at Pueblo Country Club and the team's spring tournament at Walking Stick Golf Course.
