DURANGO, Colo. (September 19, 2017) – Courtney Ewing of the Colorado State University-PuebloWomen's Golf team proved she belonged among the best with a second place finish at the NCAA West Regional Preview at the Hillcrest Golf Club.
Ewing (Jr., Pueblo West, Colo.) entered day two of the tournament tied for 14th. Tuesday, Ewing shot an incredible -2 (69) to vault up into a tie for second at the NCAA West Regional Preview. Ewing's performance Tuesday matched the rest round played in the tournament. She finished one stroke back of Addison Mitchell of Dallas Baptist University for the tournament win with a +2 (144).
The -2 performance was the best of Ewing's career, beating her 73 at the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. She had three birdies and 14 pars Tuesday. Ewing ranked in the top five on par threes, fours, and fives to post her career best -2.
As a team, the Pack finished tied for ninth with a cumulative score of 615 (+47). Their ninth place was tied for the best score posted by an a RMAC school with University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
Rachanok Rahulpan (Jr., Pathumthani, Thailand) took 40th place overall in the 100 golfer field. Rahulpan followed up her +4 (75) on day one with a +9 (80) on day two.
Like Rahulpan, Orakorn Thirayatorn (Jr., Meang Khonkaen, Thailand) and Kellsey Sample (Fr., Monument, Colo.) carded +9 (80) scores Tuesday. Thirayatorn placed 60th with a +16 (78,80, 160). Sample secured 71st place thanks to 80s in both of her rounds in the tournament.
The ThunderWolves will continue their fall season Monday Sept. 25- Tuesday Sept. 26 when they tee off at the WNMU Fall Collegiate Invite. This tournament will be held at the Estrella Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.
