Cunningham picks up RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 26, 2018) For the third time in the 2017-18 season, Katie Cunningham of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball team has earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Cunningham (Aurora, Colo.) had two double-doubles to celebrate her senior weekend. She averaged 13.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.

On the offensive end, Cunningham made 66.7 percent from the field (8-for-12) and 3-point range (4-for-6). She was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Cunningham has averaged 13.3 points per game in February.

In the Pack's win over Colorado Mesa University Friday, Cunningham scored 14 points and hauled in 13 rebounds. She made 4-of-7 from the field and had four assists to guide the Pack to a 66-53 win over the Mavericks.

On her senior night, Cunningham collected 12 points and 12 rebounds (nine defensive rebounds).  The Pack's point guard made 4-of-5 from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from both beyond the arc and at the charity stripe. Cunningham came away with three steals as the Pack crushed the Mountaineers, 75-48.

Cunningham leads the RMAC with 9.7 rebounds per game. Her 4.9 assists per game ranks second in the RMAC. The senior's 2.2 assist/turnover ratio also ranks second.

With 556 career rebounds, Cunningham ranks ninth all-time in CSU-Pueblo history. She could move into eighth with four more rebounds. Her nine career double-doubles ties her for eighth most all-time at CSU-Pueblo.

For Cunningham this is her sixth RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Award in her career. This season, she earned the award Jan. 8 and Jan. 29.

After winning their second consecutive RMAC Regular Season Championship, Cunningham and the Pack will host the RMAC Tournament. They will start RMAC Tournament Play Tuesday when they face South Dakota School of Mines at 7 p.m. Massari Arena.
