COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 11, 2017) – Lauren Heyn of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball earned the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference weekly award of her career Monday. The RMAC announced in its weekly release that Heyn was named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Heyn (Jr., Loomis, Calif.) led the Pack to a 2-0 week and a 4-0 start to the conference season. The Pack defeated New Mexico Highlands University 78-53 Tuesday and bested Westminster College 63-53 Friday.
In two games combined, Heyn averaged 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 per game. Offensively, Heyn contributed 12.5 points per game. She made 55.6 percent from the field (10-of-18) and 83.3 percent at the free throw line (5-of-6).
Heyn started her dominant week Tuesday with 11 points and seven rebounds against the Cowgirls. The forward also rejected three Highlands shots and handed out two assists in just 20 minutes.
On Friday, Heyn scored 14 points. She delivered nine rebounds and swatted a Griffin shot to guide the Pack to a 4-0 start to RMAC play for the fifth consecutive season.
The junior is averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game this season. Since Heyn returned to the Pack's lineup, CSU-Pueblo is 4-0, with all four wins coming by an average of 21.0 points per game.
Heyn and the Pack will head to Colorado Mesa University Friday for a pivotal RMAC game at 5:30 p.m. Their four-game road trip continues Saturday with a visit to Gunnison, Colo. and a showdown with Western State Colorado University at 5 p.m.
