Pack Women finish historic regular season 26-2 after loss to Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (February 25, 2017) –  Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball ended its historic 2016-17 regular season with a whimper as they suffered their second loss of the season 91-56 at Colorado Mesa University.

Despite the loss, the Pack earned the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship with a 20-2 RMAC record and a 26-2 overall record. They will enter the RMAC Tournament as the No.1 seed and will host South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Massari Arena.

Colorado Mesa will be the two seed in the RMAC Tournament. The Mavericks conclude the regular season with a 20-6 record (17-5 RMAC). They will host Colorado School of Mines Tuesday in the RMAC Quarterfinals.

The Pack's defense struggled to contain the Mavericks offense. Colorado Mesa made 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from downtown. CSU-Pueblo was cold from 3-point range, shooting 2-of-15. The Mavericks also had a 49 to 26 advantage on rebounding.

Tuileisu Anderson (Jr., Vancouver, Wash.) led the ThunderWolves with 18 points. Anderson moved into 11th place all-time at CSU-Pueblo in scoring with 1,066 career points. She also made her 73rd 3-pointer of the season to post the second-highest total in school history.

The ThunderWolves never led. They would rally from 12-5 to tie the game at 12. However, the Mavericks would unleash a 16-2 run with four 3-pointers to take a 28-14 lead after one.

In the second quarter, the Pack never got any closer than 10, making it 30-20 early in the frame. However, Mesa put the Pack away with a 25-4 run that would all-but guarantee them the win. They led 57-27 at halftime. Colorado Mesa used their 30-point halftime lead to cruise to a 91-56 victory.

The Pack will meet South Dakota Mines in the first round of the RMAC Tournament Tuesday Feb. 28 at home. In their only meeting this season, the Pack beat the Hardrockers, 66-64 on the road.

CSU-Pueblo's men's team will follow when they face Colorado Christian University in their RMAC Tournament First Round game at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for these games will on sale Tuesday at 12 p.m.
