Cunningham Collects RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 30, 2017) After helping Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball to a 21-0 record, Katie Cunningham earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday.

Cunningham (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) continued her season-long domination of the boards this past weekend. The RMAC's leading rebounder averaged 12.0 rebounds per game. Cunningham added 1.5 steals per game, and a block per game. CSU-Pueblo's point guard did all of this despite a season-low in minutes for a weekend.

Offensively, Cunningham swished 75 percent (6-of-8) of her shots from the field. She made both 3-pointers and all three free throws she attempted as she helped the No. 4 ranked ThunderWolves remain unbeaten at 21-0.

The Grandview High School alum hauled in 14 rebounds for the second consecutive game in CSU-Pueblo's 77-54 win over Chadron State. Cunningham also added 10 points to earn her second double-double of the season. She finished with three assists, two steals and a block. With the outcome of the game decided by halftime, Cunningham played just 25 minutes and very few minutes in the second half.

In the Pack's showdown with No.18 ranked and rebounding juggernaut Regis, Cunningham corralled 10 boards. She fired in seven points and added another steal and a block in just 26 minutes. Cunningham did not a miss a shot against the Rangers, going 3-for-3 from the field. She also knocked down her only free throw. Thanks to uncharacteristic foul trouble, Cunningham played just 26 minutes against Regis.

Monday's award was Cunningham's second RMAC Player of the Week honor of the season. She received the same honor Dec. 12. As a team, the Pack owns nine RMAC Player of the Week awards this season.

Cunningham and the Pack will be back in action Friday when they host Adams State University at 5:30 p.m. Friday's game will be a White Out at Massari Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear white to support CSU-Pueblo.

The ThunderWolves will continue their three-game homestand Saturday when they clash with Fort Lewis College at 5 p.m. Saturday's game will air on CET channel 106/900 HD for Comcast Xfinity subscribers.

Take-A-Kid-to-A Game Night returns to Massari Arena Saturday. Denver Nuggets Super Mascot Rocky will also return to Massari Arena to entertain fans and sign autographs. CSU-Pueblo basketball student-athletes will also sign autographs in the kid zone, which will also offer face painting.
