COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 16, 2017) – After leading two incredible team defensive efforts, Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball center Molly Rohrer claimed Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Rohrer (So., Greenwood Village, Colo.) anchored a dominating Pack defense this week that held both Metro State University Denver and University of Colorado Colorado Springs to 49 points as CSU-Pueblo improved to 17-0. Rohrer finished the week with six blocks, an average of 3.0 per game. She averaged 4.0 rebounds per game and a steal.
The sophomore denied the Roadrunners with four rejections Friday night as the Pack limited MSU Denver to just 23.4 5 from the field. She also scored 16 points to lead all players in the game and help the Pack to a 66-49 win.
One night later, Rohrer quieted UCCS' top ranked offense with another two blocks. Guarding UCCS' Tori Fisher and Brittany Hernandez ,she held the Mountain Lions duo to just 23.5 (4-for-17) percent from the field. Rohrer's presence kept UCCS out of the pain and held Fisher to 20 percent from the field when she normally makes 60 percent.
Thanks to Rohrer's efforts, the Pack held the top ranked Mountain Lions offense to a season low 49 points and a season-low 28.8 % from the field. Rohrer once again netted a game high 17 points.
Offensively Rohrer delivered 16.5 points per game for the week. She made 10-of-17 (.526) from the field. She also knocked down 12-of-15 free throws.
Rohrer leads the RMAC in blocks and ranks 22nd in the nation in blocks per game. With Rohrer leading the way, the Pack is one of just four unbeaten team left in D-II and holds a two-game lead on the rest of the RMAC.
Monday's award is the fourth Rohrer has received from the RMAC this season. She earned her third RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award of 2016-17 and her fifth career Defensive Player of the Week. She moved into fourth all-time at CSU-Pueblo in total blocks with 104.
CSU-Pueblo plays Colorado Christian University Tuesday night at 5 p.m. This game will be televised on Comcast Entertainment Television, channel 105/900 HD on Comcast Xfinity.
