INDIANAPOLIS (February 28, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo track and field programs will send five men and one woman to the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships, set for March 9-10 at Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Pittsburg State University and the Crawford County Convention & Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships. The championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.

The ThunderWolves men rank No. 11 entering the championships. The men's distance medley relay team has secured All-American honors and a top three finish in two of the last three championships. This year's group has three returning runners from those teams, as the squad is made up of Devundrick Walker (Jr., Aurora, Colo.), Dueth Vassell (Sr., Denver, Colo.), Thomas Staines (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Derrick Williams (Sr., Columbia Falls, Mont.). Walker and Staines will also run the 800m event, while Williams is set to compete in the 3000m run where he is a two-time indoor All-American. Finally on the men's side, cross country All-American Marcelo Laguera (Jr., Chihuahua, Mexico) will compete in the 5000m run. 

For the women's team, senior Angelique Urenda (Pueblo, Colo.) has qualified for the pole vault after setting an RMAC record in the event and winning the title at the RMAC Championships.

National qualifier in the 5000m ... USTFCCCA All-Region (5000m) ... Fresh off All-American honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Laguera ran the 5000m race in a converted time of 14:07.51 at the Mines vs. CSU-Pueblo dual Dec. 1 ... The NCAA provisional time was just off the auto mark and held up all season long to rank as the eighth fastest time in Division II this season ... Also had a NCAA provisional time in the 3000m ... Ran a converted time of 8:11.26 at the Colorado Invitational (Feb. 1) that finished the regular season ranked 22nd in Division II. 

STAINES

National qualifier in the 800m and will run the 800m leg of the DMR ... USTFCCCA All-Region (400m, 800m, DMR) ... Ran to the fastest 800m time in NCAA Division II and the third fastest time in the division's history at the Colorado Invitational (Feb. 3) ... His time of 1:47.82 was converted to 1:47.12, an automatic mark that also established a school record and earned Staines not only RMAC Runner of the Week honors, but USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week recognition ... The DMR ran a converted time of 9:46.78 at the Mines D-II Invite & Multi, an automatic time that enters the national championships fourth in Division II ... Also established a NCAA provisional time (9th nationally) and school record in the 400m dash with a time of 47.58 at the GVSU Big Meet - Saturday (Feb. 10) ... Had the 15th fastest mile this season with a provisional time of 4:05.85 at the GVSU Big Meet - Friday (Feb. 9). 

URENDA

National qualifier in the pole vault ... USTFCCCA All-Region (Pole Vault) ... RMAC Champion in the pole vault after setting a new conference and school record with a vault of 3.89m (12' 9") ... Owns the eighth best mark in the nation ... Was second in the high jump at the RMAC Championships. 

VASSELL

Will compete in the 400m leg of the DMR ... USTFCCCA All-Region (DMR) ... The DMR ran a converted time of 9:46.78 at the Mines D-II Invite & Multi, an automatic time that enters the national championships fourth in Division II ... RMAC Champion in the 400m dash with a time of 49.9 ... Recorded a top time of 48.24 (converted) this season at the Colorado Invitational (Feb. 3) ... The NCAA provisional time ranked as the 37th fastest time in Division II.

WALKER

National qualifier in the 800m and will run the 1200m leg of the DMR ... USTFCCCA All-Region (DMR) ... RMAC Champion in the 800m with a time of 1:54.24 ... His fastest 800m converted time went for 1:50.84 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational (Jan. 20) ... The NCAA provisional time ranks 16th entering the national championships ... The DMR ran a converted time of 9:46.78 at the Mines D-II Invite & Multi, an automatic time that enters the national championships fourth in Division II.

WILLIAMS

National Qualfier in the 3000m run and will compete in the 1600m leg of the DMR ... USTFCCCA All-Region (mile, DMR) ... Ran an NCAA provisional converted time of 8:07.79 at the Mines D-II Invite & Multi (Jan. 26) to rank 11th in Divsion II ... The DMR ran a converted time of 9:46.78 at the Mines D-II Invite & Multi, an automatic time that enters the national championships fourth in Division II ... Posted an NCAA automatic time in the mile with a mark of 4:01.79 at Colorado Invitational (Feb. 2) that finished the regular season seventh ... Also had a NCAA provisional time in the 800m run ... RMAC Summit Award winner.
