NEW ORLEANS (August 1, 2017) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its annual team and individual academic honors last week and in the process recognized both the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's programs, while 13 members gathered individual awards.
The Pack women carried a 3.587 GPA, while the men posted a 3.257 GPA.
All-Academic Team honors were given to programs with a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
Also this summer, the men's indoor and outdoor teams and the women's outdoor squad won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Brechler Award for the top GPA in the conference.
The men's team totaled seven individuals, while the women had six earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, which was given to student-athletes who compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor seasons.
Gathering honors for the men were Dante Carter (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), Shawn Horne (So., Camp Casey, South Korea), Marcelo Laguera (So., Chihuahua, Mexico), Zach Retzlaff (So., Pueblo West, Colo.), Paul Roberts (Fr., Boulder, Colo.) Dueth Vassell (Jr., Denver, Colo.) and Derrick Williams (Jr., Columbia Falls, Mont.).
USTFCCCA All-Academic award winners for the women were Taliah Burney (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Lauren Fairchild (Fr., McKinney, Texas), Bailey Hughes (Sr., Bigfork, Mont.), Jordan Mathes (Sr., Boise, Idaho), Sydni Riley (Sr., Florissant, Colo.) and Miriam Roberts (Jr., Boulder, Colo.).
Carter, Riley and Williams were all CoSIDA Academic All-America selections.
