Riley wins 800m on final day of RMAC Championships


GUNNISON, Colo. (May 9, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field programs wrapped up the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Tuesday in Gunnison, Colorado. The women finished fifth (66.5 points), while the men were sixth (70 points).

Senior Sydni Riley (Florissant, Colo.) was crowned RMAC Champion in the 800m run to after finishing second at the indoor championships. She ran to a time of 2:10.86.

The Pack gathered a handful of podium times, which put them in the top three. For the men, junior Dueth Vassell (Denver, Colo.) was second in the 400m dash with a time of 47.43, which was just off the winning time of 47.36. Freshman Taliah Burney (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also earned eight team points with a second place finish in the 400m dash. She ran to a personal best time of 55.95.

The men's 4x400m relay squad clocked a time of 3:15.38 to finish second. The foursome was made up of Ron Sweeten (Jr., Falcon, Colo.), Thomas Staines (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Shawn Horne (So., Camp Casey, South Korea) and Vassell.

Senior Dante Carter (Las Vegas, Nev.) crossed the finish line in third of the 1500m run with a time of 4:05.58.

Junior Tatianna Clanton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) helped total 13 points for the Pack Tuesday after she was third in the long jump Sunday. She was fifth in both the 100m and 200m dash events with a time of 12.05 (personal best) and 25.59, respectfully. The junior was a member of the 4x100m relay team that was fourth.  

Sweeten was third in the triple jump to notch six team points. He recorded a leap of 14.01m.

Other top five finishers included junior Miriam Roberts (Boulder, Colo.) in the 1500m, as she posted a time of 4:43.33, which was good for fourth. Her time was converted to 4:30.85, which is an NCAA provisional mark that ranks 26th nationally. Younger brother Paul Roberts (Fr., Boulder, Colo.) was fourth in the 5000m run with a time of 15:51.66.

Both the men's and women's 4x100m relay teams finished fourth.

The men finished in 41.27, which included Tevin Donnell (So., Fountain, Colo.), Staines, Horne and Bradley Ransome (Jr., Castle Pines, Colo.).

Horne was fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 48.14, Staines finished the 800m run in fifth with a time of 1:53.16 and Donnell was sixth in the 200m dash (21.99) and seventh in the 100m dash (10.83). Donnell finished the meet helping the Pack to 10 points.

The women's squad ran to a time of 47.08 and was made up of Lauren Fairchild (Fr., McKinney, Texas), Burney, Andrea Tuck (Sr., Canon City, Colo.) and Clanton.

Tuck was sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.62, .

After winning the 3000m steeplechase Tuesday, junior Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) scored two more points for the ThunderWolves, as he was eighth in the 5000m run with a time of 16:02.10 while his mark of 4:10.27 in the 1500m was also good for eighth.
