No. 6 men's, No. 23 women's track and field heads to Gorilla Classic


PUEBLO, Colo. (February 10, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo indoor track and field season continues at the Pittsburgh State University Gorillas Classic Feb. 10-11. In this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national rankings, the men's team was ranked No. 6, while the women were No. 23.

In addition to the Gorillas Classic, the women's distance medley relay team will travel to the Grand Valley Big Meet. The foursome of Miriam Roberts (Jr., Boulder, Colo.), Taliah Burney (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Sydni Riley (Sr., Florissant, Colo.) and Bailey Hughes (Sr., Bigfork, Mont.), will travel to Allendale, Michigan to attempt to improve on their NCAA Division II provisional time of 11:50.00 that currently ranks No. 9 nationally.

The two heats of the women's DMR race is scheduled for 10:35 a.m. Saturday.

As for the Pitt State meet, Friday's action will begin at 1 p.m. (MST), while Saturday's competition with start at 9:30 a.m. at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

CSU-Pueblo has seven runners in the men's mile, led by senior Dante Carter (Las Vegas, N.V.), who owns the 10th fastest mile time (4:07.12) in NCAA Division II. Sophomore Devundrick Walker (Aurora, Colo.) is also set to run to improve on his 15th best time nationally (4:09.8).

Carter and freshman Thomas Staines (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will run in the 800m, as they have the fourth (1:50.37) and 16th (1:52.39) best time nationally, respectfully.

Highlighting the women, junior Tatianna Clanton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will compete in the long jump and enters the competition with the sixth longest leap (5.90m) of the season in NCAA Division II. Freshman Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas) will also jump and owns an NCAA provisional mark this season.

Senior Andrea Tuck (Canon City, Colo.) has the seventh best performance in the pentathlon this indoor season. She will compete in four of those events separately this weekend, as she is entered in the 60m hurdles and high jump Friday, then the shot put and 800m run Saturday. She will also run the 200m dash Friday.
