Morris inks three during NCAA Signing Period

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 27, 2016) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country and track and field programs have inked three more for the 2016-17 season during the NCAA regular signing period, announced by CSU-Pueblo Head Coach Matt Morris Thursday. 

The ThunderWolves have added Michael Duran (Pueblo, Colo.), Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas) and Thomas Staines (Colorado Springs, Colo.).

All signees are contingent upon admission to CSU-Pueblo and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

The Pack added six during the early period in November. 

Michael Duran - Pueblo, Colo., Centennial High School, 5-9, Cross Country and Track

Centennial HS: Made third consecutive appearance at the 4A Cross Country State Championships ... Finished third at the state meet as a sophomore and was sixth as a junior ... Posted a fifth-place finish in the 800 meter run at the 4A Track and Field State Championships ... Was sixth in the 1600m as a sophomore at state ... PR times: 800m - 1:55, 1600m - 4.24, 5000m - 15:44, 3200m - 9:48 ... Owns a 3.5 GPA. 

Personal: Son of Paul and Theresa Gonzales ... Intends to major in exercise science at CSU-Pueblo.

Lauren Fairchild - McKinney, Texas, Plano Senor High School, 5-3, Track

Plano HS: A regional qualifier for the Wildcats as a freshman, sophomore and junior ... An area qualifier in the long jump in 2015 and earned a regional appearance with the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams ... As a sophomore, regionally qualified for the long jump ... Regional qualifier for with the 4x100m relay team as as freshman ... PR times: 100m - 12.08, 200m - 26.1, Long Jump - 18'0'' ... A national qualifier with her AAU team in the long jump and heptathlon in 2015 ... A 3.74 GPA student at Plano Senior High.

Personal: Daughter of Sean (Aurora) and Lisa ... Father, Sean, played football at Howard Payne University ... Intends to major in exercise science at CSU-Pueblo.

Thomas Staines - Colorado Springs, Colo., Cheyenne Mountain High School, 6-4, Track

Cheyenne Mountain HS: Runs the 800m and 1600m for the Indians ... Beat a loaded field of runners at Mullen Runners Roost Invitational April 9, including the defending 4A state champion ... PR times: 800m - 1.54.5, 1600m - 4.19.2.

Morris Quote: "Thomas is fairly new to running, but has had tremendous success so far and is a real diamond in the rough. Thomas has tremendous speed and a great knack for finding the finish line first. Thomas comes from a great running family and his coaches have done an outstanding job of preparing him for the next level. Thomas can definitely come in and contribute in his first season here are CSU Pueblo."

Personal: Son of Gary and Linda Staines ... Parents, Gary and Linda, were Olympic distance runners for England in 1988 in Seoul... Intends to major in automotive industry management at CSU-Pueblo. 

Next for the ThunderWolves are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships May 6-8, hosted by Black Hills State Unviersity in Spearfish, South Dakota.
