Softball splits nonconference games with CCU

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 4, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team earned a split of its nonconference doubleheader against Colorado Christian Wednesday, picking up a 1-0 win in game one and falling 4-2 in the second game.

Sabrina Felix (So., Corona, Calif.) lead the way with three hits on the day.

In game one the ThunderWolves scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh and one out, Gabby Moreno (So., Scottsdale, Ariz.) stepped up with her second hit of the game, poking a single to left field and score pinch-runner Jordan Sheard (Jr., Broomfield, Colo.).

Pack starting pitcher K'Lee Kent (Sr., Hobbs, NM) tossed a stellar game and earned the win in the circle, throwing seven innings and allowed no runs on three hits. She finished with five strikeouts and two walks and improved to 7-11 on the season.

The Pack outhit the Cougars 6-3 and both teams left six runners on base.

CCU's Kenzie Mattey took the loss in game one and falls to 17-3.

In game two the Cougars put up two runs in the first and added a single run in the third against Pack pitcher Hannah Anderson (So., Spokane, Wash.).

The ThunderWolves were held without a hit through four innings and got their first hit and run in the bottom of the fifth on a single from Felix.

In the sixth, Michaela Burpee (Jr., Union City, Calif.) hit an RBI-groundout to get within two runs.

The Pack's final at bat brought the tying run to the plate after a single by Felix. A double play ended the game 4-2 in favor of CCU.

CSU-Pueblo (9-26, 7-17 RMAC) resumes RMAC play Saturday at Colorado Mines. The Orediggers and Pack open a four-game set starting at noon at CSM Softball Field.
