PUEBLO, Colo. (March 17, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team earned a split of its doubleheader Saturday against Chadron State at Rawlings Softball Complex. The Pack lost game one 7-4 and came away with a 4-3 win in game two.
Freshman Marissa Piatt (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) earned her first career walkoff hitting the game winning single in the seventh inning of game two for the Pack. On the day Piatt finished 4-for-8 at the dish and a triple.
Gabby Moreno (So., Scottsdale, Ariz.) continues to flourish in the leadoff spot as she went 5-for-8 at the plate and two stolen bases.
In game one the ThunderWolves took a 2-0 lead in the first on four straight singles to start the offense including a two-run hit by Sabrina Felix (So., Corona, Calif.).
Chadron State evened the game in the fourth after taking a walk and three singles through the infield.
The Eagles offense tallied five more runs over the next two innings and take a 7-2 lead. CSC's Jessica Jarecki went the distance and allowed two earned runs with ten strikeouts.
CSU-Pueblo got after Jarecki in the sixth scoring two on a Moreno single and a passed ball to get within three runs.
In the final attempt to tie the game the ThunderWolves were caught in a double play that eliminated any threat.
Pack hurler Hannah Anderson (So., Spokane, Wash.) was tabbed with the loss and drops to 2-7 on the season.
Game two the Pack again scored the first run of the game in the third when Moreno drew a walk to leadoff the frame and stole second base and moved to third on a groundout in the infield setting up Felix to single thru the right side and get the Pack on the board.
Chadron State took the lead in the next half inning, hitting one of three homeruns on the day and taking a 2-1 lead.
The Pack answered in the home half with a two-run blast to left off the bat of Morgan Hatfield (Jr., Upland, Calif.). It is her first homerun of the year.
CSC got the score back even in the fifth with a single run and no hits in the frame.
Pack pitcher K'Lee Kent (Sr., Hobbs, NM) was worked in both games and tossed a complete game in game two surrendering three runs, two earned, on four hits allowed. She finished with three strikeouts and improves to 5-5 in the circle.
In the seventh, with the game tied at 3-3 and one out, Moreno singled up the middle and stole base number two in the game. The next two batters reached safely via base on balls setting up Piatt to smack a single to left and score the game winner 4-3.
CSU-Pueblo (7-16, 6-8 RMAC) conclude the series against Chadron starting at 11 a.m. Sunday at Rawlings Softball Complex. Following the games the Pack invite all fans to come and test their kickball skills and play a game of kickball with the ThunderWolves.
