ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 10, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball's offense remained hot Saturday in game one against Adams State, beating the Grizzlies 7-0 in the first game of a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader at ASU Softball Field. In the nightcap, the Grizzlies pulled off a 7-5 come-from-behind win over the Pack.
Throughout the day both teams battled fierce winds on the diamond.
In game one each batter in the Pack's lineup collected at least one hit in the effort. The bottom half of the ThunderWolves lineup was responsible for eight of the 15 total hits. Five players recorded an RBI guided by two from Morgan Hatfield (Jr., Upland, Calif.).
CSU-Pueblo scored the games' first run in the third inning, Alyssa Ubrun (Sr., Olympia, Wash.) drew a walk and came around to score after getting into scoring position on a stolen base.
Three singles in the fifth resulted in two more runs for the Pack.
Junior outfielder Jordan Sheard (Broomfield, Colo.) pitched in an RBI-triple scoring another run in the sixth and a bunt single by Ubrun extended the lead 5-0 for the Pack.
For good measure Hatfield put herself in the RBI column hitting a two-run single through the infield.
Pack starting pitcher K'Lee Kent (Sr., Hobbs, NM) threw a complete game and allowed no runs on eight hits and eight strikeouts and push her record to 4-4 on the year.
In game two the ThunderWolves jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first when Moreno singled and scored on a Michaela Burpee (Jr., Union City, Calif.) double down the leftfield line.
Adams tied the game and took its first lead of the day on solo homeruns hit in the second and third innings.
In the fourth four runs would score for CSU-Pueblo on three extra-base hits to build a 5-2 lead.
ASU closed the gap in fourth with a pair of runs and tied the game in the fifth with a single run.
Pack starter Hannah Anderson (So., Spokane, Wash.) lasted six innings and was pulled after giving up a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh. Anderson allowed five runs, three earned with two strikeouts.
Kent came on with a runner on first and no outs in the seventh and faced one batter before surrendering a game-winning two-run homerun hit to centerfield for Adams to secure a 7-5 win for the Grizzlies.
Moreno led game two offensively for the ThunderWolves going 2-for-4 at the dish with a triple, two runs and two RBIs.
Freshman Jazmine Bench (Fr., Buena Park, Calif.) saw her first collegiate action playing left and going 1-for-3 at the plate.
