Pack split final day versus Regis

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 26, 2017) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team split a doubleheader Sunday versus Regis University salvaging one win in the four game series played at the Rawlings Softball Complex. The Pack beat Regis 8-3 in the first game and fell 11-10 in extra innings in the series finale.

CSU-Pueblo's offense came alive on day two of the series collecting eighteen runs on twenty-two hits on the day.

Nicole Montoya (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.) paved the way for the ThunderWolves going 5-for-9 (.556 average) with one homerun, one double, two RBIs and five runs scored in the two games.

Cold temperatures in the region forced the start time to be pushed back one hour.

In game one the teams exchanged single runs in the opening inning. The Pack's run came via sacrifice groundball out by Lexie Martindale (Sr., DP, Pueblo, Colo.) scoring Montoya who led off with a single to left centerfield.

CSU-Pueblo jumped to a 5-1 lead after scoring four runs in the home half of the third thanks in part to a 2-run single by Martindale and a two-run homerun hit by K'Lee Kent (Jr., P, Hobbs, NM).

The Pack added three more runs in the next inning on a RBI-hits by Martindale and Kent combined with a sac flyout by Sabrina Felix (Fr., OF, Corona, Calif.) cushioned the Pack's lead 8-1.

RU scored twice in their final at bat of a 8-3 Pack win.

Kent earned the win in the circle tossing seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and finished with two strikeouts.

In the series finale the team's mirrored the first inning from game one scoring single runs each in their half of the frame.

Montoya crushed her first homerun of the season to lead off the home half.

In their next at bat the ThunderWolves added runs on another RBI hit by Montoya and single by Hailey Bennett (Fr., OF, Norco, Calif.).  The final run came as a result of a wild pitch by Regis.

After a scoreless third and fourth inning, Regis regained the lead 5-4 in the fifth on four runs scored and taking advantage of a Pack error.

CSU-Pueblo evened the score in the next half inning on a solo homerun hit by Martindale, her fourth of the year.

In the sixth the Pack regained the lead scoring on a wild pitch in the frame.

Going to the final inning CSU-Pueblo held a 6-5 lead before allowing Regis to score twice in the top half of the seventh on four hits in the inning.

The Pack scored the equalizer in the home half of the seventh after Gabby Moreno (Fr., 3B, Scottsdale, Ariz.) led off with a walk and would come around to score on a groundout by Martindale following a stolen base and an error by the Rangers catcher.

In the eighth inning Regis plated four runs on four hits in the inning bringing its lead to 11-7.

The Pack did not let up however scoring three runs in their half of the eighth taking advantage of another wild pitch and a two-run single by Moreno brought the Pack within one.

With the tying run on base the game ended on a groundout in an 11-10 Regis victory.

Kent was tabbed with the loss to bring her record to 2-5 on the year.

CSU-Pueblo (12-16, 9-11 RMAC) goes on the road Apr. 1-2 to battle at University of Colorado Colorado Springs in a four-game RMAC series at Mountain Lion Stadium.
