PUEBLO, Colo. (September 13, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's tennis programs will begin their 2018 Fall home schedule Thursday-Sunday, as the squads host the Pueblo Duals at Pueblo City Park.
A total of 16 men's and women's programs will be in town for some fall tennis action. All the matches are free to the public.
The Pack men return four of their top six players, which includes Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and All-RMAC First Team Singles member Thomas Pudney (So., Southend-on-the-Sea, UK) and five total. The ThunderWolves went 11-15 last season and were ranked as high as No. 42 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II rankings. The Pack went 3-3 in RMAC play to earn the No. 3 seed in the RMAC Tournament. Also returning from All-RMAC performances last year are seniors Ogulcan Deniz (Istanbul, Turkey) and James Ryan (Rustington/Sussex, UK), as they gathered All-RMAC Second Team honors for their singles play. Pudney and Deniz combined for all-conference first team doubles recognition and sophomore Cade Boedeker (Fort Worth, Texas) was selected as All-RMAC Second Team Doubles.
The women return five total and three top players from last season, which includes All-RMAC First Team Singles team member, Nia Matthews (Sr., Houston, Texas). The ThunderWolves finished the regular season with a 4-21 overall record and a 2-4 mark in RMAC play. The Pack were the No. 3 seed in the RMAC Tournament, but fell to No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa University by the score of 5-3. Matthews was named All-RMAC Second Team Doubles with sophomore Kali Hamilton (Grapevine, Texas), who was also second team for her singles performance as a freshman. Finally, junior Sarah Megilligan (Pueblo West, Colo.) were tabbed honorable mention doubles.
