Pack tennis falls in season finale; RMAC Tournament bracket announced



PUEBLO, Colo. (April 17, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo tennis teams fell at Colorado Mesa University Saturday to conclude the regular season. The men lost 7-2, while the women suffered an 8-1 setback. The 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament bracket was also released Saturday, with tournament play beginning April 22.

The tournament is hosted by Metro State University of Denver at the Regency Athletic Complex.

The ThunderWolves men (7-13, 2-4 RMAC) earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa (12-11, 5-1 RMAC) at 5 p.m. Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday's final at 1 p.m. CMU shared the regular season title with MSU Denver and were the second seed on tiebreakers.

The Pack and Mavericks have battled three times this season with CSU-Pueblo winning the first meeting 5-4 in October. The two teams have played twice in the last 10 days with CMU winning both by the score of 7-2. In Saturday's loss, the Pack got wins from No. 1 singles James Ryan (Jr., London, England) and No. 2 singles Nick Wade (Fr., Upminister Essex, United Kingdom). Ryan won 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 and Wade was victorious in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

The CSU-Puebo women (3-15, 0-6 RMAC) are the No. 4 seed and will face the RMAC Champion and host Roadrunners (15-7, 6-0 RMAC) at 8 a.m. Saturday. Sunday's RMAC Tournament Final is slated for at 9 a.m.

The ThunderWolves finished the regular season with an 8-1 loss to CMU where Samantha Cachutt (Jr., Caracas, Miranda) picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.

The Pack are 0-2 against MSU Denver this season with a 9-0 loss at home and an 8-1 setback on the road. The one win came at No. 3 doubles where Cachutt and Kristin Jensen (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) won 10-9 (11-9).
