PUEBLO, Colo. (September 6, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team stayed unbeaten at home Thursday after defeating Dallas Baptist University 1-0 behind a goal scored by Cesar Zamudio (Jr., Guayquil, Ecuador) in the 37th minute to propel the Pack.
Starting in the first half, the ThunderWolves were able to control possession for much of the period and fired off four shots in the first twenty minutes of play to put DBU on their heels.
The Pack's first good look at the net came with fifteen minutes left in the period on a shot that sailed high by Dominik Huetgens (Halstenbek, Germany).
Keeping the pressure paid off six minutes later when the ThunderWolves again carried the ball deep into Patriots territory and Zamudio took a rebounded ball into the far left corner just inside the post for his first goal this season.
At halftime CSU-Pueblo led 6-2 in shots, while DBU took two corner kicks against zero for the ThunderWolves.
The second period, the Pack offense got the ball again on the side of DBU and five minutes into the final period, earned four of their six corner kicks in the game.
Brayden Ballman (So., Seattle, Wash.) led the team in shots with three.
The Patriots final surge came with ten minutes left in regulation and Pack goalkeeper Tyler Harvey (Jr., Henderson, Nev.) buckled down and became a brick wall. Harvey made two crucial saves in the final moments including a save with four minutes on the clock to kept the shutout intact.
CSU-Pueblo (2-1-0) wraps nonconference play Saturday against Texas Permian-Basin. The Pack and Falcons are set to kickoff at 12 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
