PUEBLO, Colo. (September 1, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team fell victim in its season opener against Rogers State, dropping a 2-0 decision against the Hillcats Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The first half was played evenly as both teams managed three shots in the opening period. The Pack matched Rogers' two corner kick attempts.
Michael Chism (R-So., Littleton, Colo.) fired the only shot on goal in the contest and the ThunderWolves fired four shots overall in the match.
Rogers State offense came alive in the second period, scoring the game's first goal in the 63rd minute. RSU increased the lead in the 74th minute off a corner kick placed inside the box.
RSU outshot the Pack 13-1 in the final period.
Pack goalkeeper Erich Frey (R-So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) faced a flurry of shots most of which came in the second period. Frey made one first half save and four in the match.
CSU-Pueblo (0-1) returns to the pitch Sunday and welcomes West Texas A&M to town. Kickoff is slated for noon at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
