PUEBLO, Colo. (August 10, 2017) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team strengthened its roster with the addition of thirteen student-athletes who will help guide the ThunderWolves this fall.
The newly signed athletes along with the rest of the Pack return to campus this week ahead of first day of practice Monday morning.
The Pack inherited one of the biggest recruiting classes in recent history with 12 of the thirteen signees fresh out of high school and seeking to make an immediate impact.
The ThunderWolves' additions come from throughout the region including one international athlete.
"We have a very balanced group of newcomers this year," said Head Coach Roy Stanley. "All positions are represented, and we have a bit more height in this group."
The new Pack members are:
Frank Velez – Dallas, Tex., 5-8, Mid.
"We know that we will need a good number of these newcomers to step up if we are going to be successful, and we believe we have a group that can do it," Stanley added.
The athletes will join current Pack players in playing eleven games at home at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium this season and ten matches on the road.
The Pack open a three-game exhibition swing at Air Force (Aug. 17) and return home and play Colorado College (Aug. 22), and conference-foe MSU Denver (Aug. 25) both under the lights at ALG Stadium.
The regular season begins with a four-game nonconference slate starting Sept. 1 at home versus Rogers State. The Pack remain home Sept. 3 against West Texas A&M.
The Pack hit the road Sept. 7 and Sept. 9 for matches at Dallas Baptist and Newman University respectively.
CSU-Pueblo begins Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Sept. 15 against Adams State, the first of a five-game homestand for the Pack.
The homestand includes matches against Fort Lewis (Sept. 17), Colorado Mines (Sept. 22), Regis (Sept. 24), and UCCS (Sept. 29).
"Our nonconference schedule and exhibitions will give us the challenges we need to put the pieces together before starting RMAC. It will be great to be home in the month of September where the weather for players and fans is the best," added Stanley.
The ThunderWolves play four dates as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. The men play ahead of the women Sept. 15 and will play in game two on Sept. 17, Sept. 24, and Sept. 29.
The final month of the season has the Pack playing seven of their final nine matches on the road. They return home Oct. 8 versus Westminster and host South Dakota Mines Oct. 20 for Senior Night at the pitch.
"The RMAC schedule is always tough, but we wouldn't want it any other way."
The ThunderWolves have several key players returning to the field and are seeking success this season.
Miles Sanchez (So., Bothell, Wash.) enters his sophomore season and will look to add to his five goals scored a season ago.
The 2017 men's team kickoff the season starting this weekend when players report to campus ahead of first day of drills Monday morning at Gonzales Stadium.
