CSU-Pueblo 3, University of Mary 1
CSU-Pueblo ran its win streak to four straight Saturday as it took down the University of Mary on a neutral field in Billings, Mont. by a score of 3-1.
The ThunderWolves benefitted from great feeders as the Pack mounted five assists on its three goals, and freshman Brenden Hughes (Fr., Fort Collins, Colo.) scored his third goal in as many games. Hughes' goal was "one of the prettiest of the season," Pack coach Roy Stanley said, as Joe Schewedhelm (Jr., Carson City, Nev.) and Sam Henritze (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished an exciting advance toward the goal, taking a series of six to seven passes and feeding it straight to Hughes for a great look at the net.
"The goal was huge because it came at a critical moment," Stanley said. "It really sealed the game for us."
Erik Andersen (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.), the hero from Thursday's overtime win over Montana State-Billings, also netted the game's first goal and his second in as many games in the 22nd minute.
"Overall, it was a solid effort and we came out to play," Stanley said. "We did a better job of maintaining consistency throughout the whole first half and created a number of good chances in both halves."
The Pack improves to 4-1 on the season, its only loss coming to top-20 Rockhurst in the season-opener. It will open its conference schedule Friday when it hosts 2-2 Regis at the Rawlings Soccer Complex at 4:30 p.m.
