PUEBLO, Colo. (March 7, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse scored a school-record 24 goals to earn their first win of the 2017 season, 24-4, over the University of Great Falls Tuesday night at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The Pack broke their previous goals record of 18 set last year in a win over University of Alabama Huntsville. CSU-Pueblo now stands 1-1 on the season, while the Argos slipped to 1-2.
Blake Foerster (Jr., Centennial, Colo.) netted the first regular-season sock trick in school history with six goals. Foerster also tallied three assists to record nine points. His nine points also set a school record. The Attackman scored on all six of his shots against the Argos. He also secured three groundballs.
Taylor Davis (So., Littleton) recorded a career-high six points. Davis delivered two goals and four assists.
Devin Thrower (R-Fr., Las Vegas, Nev.) collected eight ground balls. Thrower also rocketed in his first two goals of the season and dished out two assists. The midfielder also went 6-for-8 in the faceoff circle.
Junior Cody Bolen (Castle Rock, Colo.) launched in three goals for a hat trick. Bolen also added an assist. He now has seven points through two games.
Freshman Parker Loyd (Centennial, Colo.) hit a hat trick, by scoring the first three goals of his career. Loyd netted all three of his goals in the second quarter. He came up with three groundballs for the Pack.
Weston Bartgis (So., El Cajon, Calif.) and Nick Cervi (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) both scored two goals and added one assist. Hunter Thompson (R-So., Greenwood Village, Colo.) also scored twice for the Pack.
Freshman Walker Blair (Rogers, Ark.) found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career. Caleb Johnson (Jr., Castle Rock, Colo.) rounds out the list of 10 Pack players who scored against the Argos.
Johnson won 11 of the 18 draws he took. This matched the Argos total as the Pack won 18-of-29 faceoffs. Johnson secured three ground balls and added an assist.
Anthony Ferrie (So., Littleton, Colo.) anchored a dominating Pack defense. Ferrie forced five turnovers and claimed five ground balls.
Junior Preston DeHerrera (Northglenn, Colo.) caused three turnovers. He also pulled up four ground balls and dished out an assist.
Freshman Brent Marchand (El Cajon, Calif.) elevated four ground balls and caused a turnover. Adam Lange (So., Parker, Colo.) forced two turnovers of the Pack's 17 turnovers as CSU-Pueblo limited Great Falls to just 11-of-24 on clears.
Foerster found the back of the net just 32 seconds into the game. The Argos answered with a man-up goal 16 seconds later. Thompson scored less than two minutes into the game to put the Pack up 2-1. Thompson's goal began a streak of 15 unanswered goals for the Pack that lasted into the third quarter. They would roll to a 24-4 win.
CSU-Pueblo was an incredible 19-of-20 clears. The Pack's team domination earned Noah Cheek (So., Oldsmar, Fla.) his first win of the season. Cheek stopped five of the nine shots he faced.
