DENVER, Colo. (October 9, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Golf won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Fall Preview at the Walnut Creek Golf Course. Nathan McCann claimed first place as the tournament's individual winner.
Originally scheduled for three rounds, the tournament was shortened to two rounds due to cold and rainy weather in the Denver area. The ThunderWolves completed the suspended second round from Monday with a +14 (302). They shot a tournament-best 292 (+4) in round one to finish with a tournament-best +18 (594).
The Pack battled through the cold conditions to defeat the field by four strokes. They have won two of their four tournaments this season. In three of those four tournaments, the Pack was the best RMAC team.
McCann (So., Lurgan, Armagh, Ireland) earned his third collegiate victory with a -3 (141). He was the only golfer to play both rounds under par with a -2 (70) in round one. He followed it up with a -1 (71) in round two.
The Irishman beat the rest of the field by two strokes. He topped the 63-golfer field in par 3 scoring with a -3 on par 3 holes. McCann was also -3 on par 5s, the second-best score in the field. His nine birdies were also a tournament-high.
Roy Carlsen (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) earned his second top 10 finish of the season, with a seventh place showing. Carlsen shot a +4 (148). He shot a -1 (71) in round one and a +5 (77) on day two.
Competing in the ThunderWolves' five for the first time, Sanjay Nithiyalingam (Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England, UK)took 11th place. Nithiyalingam carded a +5 (149) overall. He shot a +2 (74) in round one and a +3 (75) on day two.
Sam Barthram (So., Weybridge, Surrey, England, UK)shot a +12 (154) over the two rounds thanks to a +7 (79) in round two. Barthram placed 33rd overall.
Fraser Hughes (Sr., Newton Stewart, Scotland, UK) claimed 42nd place. He shot a +9 (81) in round two.
Taylor Rodriguez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) ranked 48th with a +17 (161). He recorded a +6 (78) in round two.
With three top finishes among RMAC teams, the ThunderWolves have officially served notice that they are a force to be reckoned with in the 2018-19 season. The Pack will complete their fall schedule next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 15-16 when they compete at the NCAA West/South Central Region Preview. This event will be held at the Ledges Golf Club in St. George, Utah.
