Pack Men tied for Second, Carlsen tied for 3rd on day one of home tourney

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 3, 2018) – Colorado State University – Pueblo Men's Golf shot a -7 on day one of the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational at Walking Stick Golf Course. Roy Carlsen holds third place after 36 holes. 

The TunderWolves collectively shot -7 (569). CSU-Pueblo is tied for second with Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Colorado Mesa University. New Mexico Junior College holds a one-stroke lead heading into day two. The Pack won last year's Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational with an even par team score. 

Carlsen (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) shot a -4 (68) in his first round and followed it up with a -3 (69). His -7 places him in a tie for third and four strokes back of the leader. Both rounds were better than any other round Carlsen has played at Walking Stick.

Fellow senior, Fraser Hughes (Newton Stewart, Scotland, UK) played a -2 (70) in the first round. A co-winner of this tournament a year ago, Hughes shot a -1 (71) in round two. His -3 places him in a tie for 7th place.

Nathan McCann (So., Lurgan Armagh, Ireland) struggled in his first round with a +4 (76). A co-winner at the Farmers Insurance Samuel Invitational last year, McCann bounced back with a -3 (69) in round to finish the day +1. McCann is tied for 14th.

Taylor Rodriguez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) carded a +3 (147). He shot  a+1 (73) in round one and a +2 (74) in round two. This effort earned Rodriguez a share of 19th place. 

Austin Shanks (Sr., Wichita, Kan.) rounded out the Pack's official five-some. His +1 (73) in round counted to the team's score. Shanks shot a +7 for the day that earned him 33rd place. 

Freshman Sanjay Nithiyalingam (Peterborough, Cambridge, England, UK) leads the Pack individuals with a +5 (149). Nithiyalingham carded an even par (72) in round two.

Austin Burgess (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the day in a tie for 28th place.  Burgess shot a +6 (150) for the day.

Sophomore Sam Barthram (Surrey, England, UK) carded a 77  (+5) and a 74 (+2). He sits in 33rd place with a +7 (151).

Chase Federico (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) carded a +4 (76) in each round. Federico finds himself in 38th place.

The ThunderWolves will try to win their third straight Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational Tuesday. They will start play at 8:30 a.m. at Walking Stick Golf Course.
