DURANGO, Colo. (October 9, 2017) – Despite cold temperatures and stormy conditions, Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Golf dominated the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Fall Preview at the Hillcrest Golf Club Monday, leading the 10 team field after the first round.
The Pack shot their second-best round in program history Monday. CSU-Pueblo carded a team score of 276 (-8). This was the Pack's lowest score since they shot a 272 (-16) to win the 2011 RMAC Championship.
After 18 holes, the Pack enjoyed a nine-stroke lead over their closest competition, University of Colorado Colorado Springs. All four Pack golfers that scored were under the par of 71 at Hillcrest Golf Club and ranked in the top five.
Senior captain Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) led the way for the Pack. Tillman carded a -4 (67) to share first place after the first round.
Roy Carlsen (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) ended round one in third place. Carlsen carded a -2 (69). He matched his best round of the season with his second consecutive 69.
Fraser Hughes (Jr., Newton Steward, Scotland) posted a +1 (72). Hughes held 11th place after one round.
Playing as an individual Austin Shanks (Jr., Wichita, Kan.) carded a +3 (74). Shanks sat in 24th entering the clubhouse. Chase Federico (So., Pueblo, Colo.) ranked 39th with a +5 (77). Austin Burgess (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) shot a +10 (81).
Originally scheduled for 54 holes, the RMAC Fall Preview was shortened to two rounds (36 holes) due to cold temperatures and lightning delays. Round two has already started. Click Here for up to the minute results.
