AMARILLO, Texas (September 12, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Golf placed eighth at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at the Tascosa Golf Club. The Pack shot an impressive -7 (857)in a tournament where eight teams shot below par.
McCann finished strong on day two with a -2 (70). He ended day one with +1 (71,74) total. Through two collegiate tournaments, McCann is -6 on the second day of a tournament.
Hughes started his tournament with the Pack's best round of the two-day event, a -4 (68). The reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week, Hughes sat 13th after day one thanks to an even par (72). A +3 (75) wrapped up Hughes' tournament. Both he and McCann have led the Pack in both of their two tournaments this seasons.
Senior Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) and Taylor Rodriguez ( Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) sat two strokes back of Hughes and McCann with a +1 (217). Tillman started slowly with a +4 (76). He would turn it around with a -2 (70) in his second round. He finished it up with a -1 (71) on Tuesday.
Rodriguez began his day Monday with a -1 (71). In his second round Monday, he posted a +2 (74). Rodriguez wrapped up his tournament with an even par (72). He ranked third in the field with a -1 average on par threes. Tillman and Rodriguez each earned a tie for 37th.
Austin Burgess (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) shined on Tuesday with a -1 (71). He finished 41st with a +2 (218).
The Pack will now take two weeks away from tournaments. They will return to tournament play Oct. 2-3 at the WNMU Fall Collegiate Invite at the Estrella Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.
