COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 7, 2017) – Fraser Hughes of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Golf team received the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week Award Thursday. Hughes (Jr., Newton Stewart, Scotland) becomes the first RMAC Men's Golfer of the Week winner in the 2017-18 season.
A transfer from New Mexico Junior College, Hughes shared the win at the Pack's home tournament, the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational with teammate Nathan McCann (Fr., Lurgan, Armagh, Ireland). Hughes' win led the Pack to a team victory at the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational for the second consecutive season.
Hughes carded a -8 (208) in his first tournament at CSU-Pueblo. The ThunderWolves and Hughes beat RMAC schools Fort Lewis, Colorado Mesa, Colorado Christian, and South Dakota Mines.
The Scotsman opened his Pack career with an even par 72 at Walking Stick Golf Course. On his second round of Monday, Hughes battled 95 degree heat to shoot the tournament's best score with a -6 (66). He finished the tournament with a -2 (70) Tuesday to earn his first place trophy.
With Hughes winning RMAC Men's Golfer of the Week, a Pack student-athlete has won the first RMAC Men's Golfer of the Week award in each of the last three seasons. Neil Tillman (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) received the first RMAC Golfer of the Week Award each of the last two seasons.
Hughes and the rest of the Pack will tee off Monday at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational hosted by West Texas A&M University. They will play three rounds at the Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas
