STOCKTON, Calif. (May 8, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's golf team posted a strong first round of the NCAA Division II South Central/West Region Championship Monday to sit eighth in the 20-team regional played at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, California.
The ThunderWolves finished with a five-under 283, as the BCC was playing 6,777 yards and a par 72. CSU-Pueblo was third among the eight AM groups and moved to eighth following the 12 other teams completing the first round.
Sonoma State and California-Baptist are tied for first at -14.
The three-day tournament has each of the 20 teams playing 18 holes for a 54-hole championship. The Pack will begin to tee off at 1 p.m. MST Tuesday.
Senior Jake Ice (Tucson, Ariz.) rattled off four straight birdies on his 12th through 15th holes to finish with a three-under 69. Sophomore Roy Carlsen (Arvada, Colo.) got hot early and was four-under through six holes. He also finished his round with a 69 (-3), as the two players sit T-15th. Both golfers totaled six birdies with three bogeys on the day.
Junior Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) played the course to an even-par 72 to sit T-54th. He had three birdies and three bogeys on the day.
Both seniors Jacob Allenback (Pueblo, Colo.) and GJ Kuhn (Ayr, Ontario, Canada) finished with a one-over 73 in their opening rounds to rank T-64th in the field of 108 players. Kuhn carded four birdies, while Allenback had three birdies on the day.
