Pack head west for NCAA Regional May 8-10


PUEBLO, Colo. (May 5, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's golf team travels to the NCAA South Central/West Region Championships, set for May 8-10 at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, California to make the program's 18th appearance at an NCAA regional.

The ThunderWolves were ranked No. 9 in the South Central Region, as 20 teams make up the super region tournament (10 from each of the South Central and West Regions). The tournnament is hosted by the University of the Pacific and Visit Stockton. The top five teams from the region championship will advance to the to the NCAA Championships May 22-26, at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Pack will be returning the the Brookside Country Club, as they played the Visit Stockton Cactus Thaw Feb. 13-14. The ThunderWolves finished 14th of 22 teams in the super region preview, but were battling wet conditions and sickness throughout the team.

Senior Jacob Allenback (Pueblo, Colo.) has provided incite for the team this week, as he will be making his fourth trip to the regional championships. The senior traveled with the team in 2013-14, which was the last NCAA appearance for the program, and advanced as an individual the past two seasons.

In 2016-17, he owns a 76.03 scoring average with two top 10's, which includes a T-9th finish at the RMAC Championships. His low round of 68 came at the conference championships.

In 11 tournaments this season the Pack finished in the top 10 on 10 occasions with six top 5's and two tournament victories. CSU-Pueblo started the year with a home tournament win at the Farmers Insurance Sam Proal Invitational at Walking Stick Golf Course Sept. 5-6. Senior Jake Ice (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) were co-champions of the event. The ThunderWolves also won the Bob Writz Invitational March 18-19. The Pack were fourth at the RMAC Championships this week.

Both Ice and Tillman earned All-RMAC First Team honors.

Ice owns the team's top scoring average at 73.39, which ranked seventh in the region. He was RMAC Golfer of the Week (Sept. 15) and totaled three top five finishes this season, which included a tie for first at the home tournament Sept. 5-6. He also posted medalist honors at the RMAC Championships where he tied for fourth.

Tillman carries a 73.77 scoring average with three top 10's and ranks No. 18 regionally in the Golfstat rankings. He was named RMAC Golfer of the Week Sept. 8 after a T-1st finish at the Farmers Insurance Sam Proal Invitational (-4, 212). Tillman has placed in the top 10 of three tournaments and was top 25 in eight of 11 tournaments, which included a T-11th finish at the RMAC Championships.

Sophomore Roy Carlsen (Arvada, Colo.) has produced this spring to solidify the No. 4 spot. He owns a 75.5 scoring average and in eight tournaments has recorded two top 10 finishes. The sophomore finished T-9th at the Southwest Kansas Shootout (April 10-11) and was T-10th at the Arbor Hotels Classic (March 6-7). He also had three top 25 finishes and was T-32nd at the RMAC Championships.

Kuhn holds a 77.15 scoring average this season and this spring has earned the No. 5 spot. The senior finished T-7th at the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational (+2) and closed the RMAC Championships T-27th. His low round was a 71 Feb. 13.
