ThunderWolves sit second after 36 holes of the RMAC Championship


CHANDLER, Ariz. (April 24, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's golf team scored the best second round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships Monday at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Arizona to sit second in the tournament.

The ThunderWolves were sixth after round 1 with a team score of 292 (+8), but rebounded with a 285 (+1), the lowest round of the second 18, to sit +9 (292-285--577) for the tournament. The 285 was the third lowest round of the first 36 holes. The Pack trail No. 46 University of Colorado Colorado Springs by three strokes heading to the final round Tuesday. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. MST.

CSU-Pueblo has two players in the top 5, as senior Jake Ice (Tucson, Ariz.) carded a 71-69--139 to sit three under. He is tied for second place and two shots back of the leader. He totaled seven birdies in the two rounds.

Junior Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) posted a 73-70--143 to sit one-over and tied for fifth. He shot a 38 (+3) in the opening 9, but finished the next 27 holes -2 to get into the top five after round two. He carded an eagle on the 534 yard, par 5 No. 11 to jump start the run.

The Pack had two more players in the top 25, as sophomore Roy Carlsen (Arvada, Colo.) aided the team with a 75-72--147 (+5) to sit tied for 18th. Senior Jacob Allenback (Pueblo, Colo.) posted a 74-74--148 to sit six-over and tied for 24th.

Finally, senior GJ Kuhn (Ayr, Ontario, Canada) is tied for 32nd with a score of 76-74--150 (+8).

Both Allenback and Ice lead the field in Par 5 scoring at four-under. Tillman is tied for the lead in Par 3 scoring at -1. Allenback is tied for second with eight birdies, while Tillman's eagle is one of five in the first two rounds.
