Berry edged in playoff for Nationals
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (GoThunderWolves.com-May 9, 2012)- The final round is over at the NCAA Division II Men's Super Regional on the Wigwam Golf Course. After a weather delay of two hours, the ThunderWolves found themselves in 9th, outside the magic number five, to advance to the National Tournament.
Jame Berry (Jr., Traverse City, Mich.) had a shot of making the dance as an individual but fell short to Dixie State's Kyle Chappell in a playoff. Chappell and Berry halved the first hole of the playoff but due to darkness, play was halted and Chappell earned the final spot because he had a lower final round score. Berry still finished tied for 10th with a three round total of 217.
The rest of the Pack played solid but just couldn't find a way to pick up strokes against the strong field. Matt Porter (RFr., Castle Rock, Colo.) continued to improve and finished tied for 37th with a total score of 225. Chad Novak (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) closed out his career, carding a 226 and tied for 42nd. Also playing in last tournament as a ThunderWolf was Scott Wyers (Sr., San Diego, Calif.). Wyers posted a 235 total for 86th place. Rounding out the Pack's team total was Ricco Tapia (Jr., Raton, N.M.). Tapia scored a total 240 for 102nd place.
