COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (November 21, 2017) – In a nonconference matchup, Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Basketball defeated Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Steel Silver Trophy rival University of Colorado Colorado Springs 100-88 Tuesday night in the Galogy Events Events Center.
Donovan Oldham (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Pack with 26 points. He went 8-of-12 from the field including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. The sophomore sank 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Oldham narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Will Newman (Sr., Hawthorne, Calif.) delivered another great performance. Newman knocked down 9-of-11 from the field and a pair of 3-pointers. He was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Newman rounded out his line with eight rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block.
Mika Nuolivirta (Sr., Vantaa, Uusimaa, Finland) poured in a season-high 18 points. He went 8-for-14 from the field and hit a pair of threes. Nuolivirta added six boards and two blocks.
Senior Josh Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.) totaled 17 points. Playing in front of his hometown crowd, Smith swished 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 from downtown.
The Pack hit 100 points for the first time this season. They made 16 treys and shot above 50 percent from both the field and downtown.
CSU-Pueblo led most of the way. A layup by Newman put the Pack up 23-21 to give the Pack a lead they would never give up. The ThunderWolves built that lead to as many as 18 in the first half. They led 54-47 at the break.
UCCS would close the gap to three with 8:26 left, making it 81-78. CSU-Pueblo went on a 10-1 run to put the Mountain Lions away.
The Pack will return home Monday, Nov. 28 to host Johnson & Wales University. Tip off is at 7 p.m. in Massari Arena.
