COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 27, 2017) - For the fourth time this season, Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball senior center Nelson Kahler (Noosa Heads, Australia) has earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week recognition, released by the league office Monday.
Kahler picked up his fourth honor on the final week of the regular season, as he helped the ThunderWolves to the No. 3 seed in the RMAC Shootout after a 17-5 league record. The Pack will host No. 6 seed Colorado Christian University Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
The senior also earned the honor Jan. 9, Jan. 16 and Feb. 13. In his career, Kahler earned eight weekly laurels from the league.
Kahler posted eight blocks against Western State Colorado University Fridayt to establish a new program single season record for blocks. On the weekend he swatted 11 shots to average 5.5 blocks per game. The eight blocks marked the seventh time this season he has totaled five or more rejections in a game. He added 19 points and 5.5 rebounds per game on 81.3 percent shooting.
Kahler owns 89 blocked shots in 2016-17 to surpass the previous school record of 80 set in 1982-83. He ranks fourth on the RMAC's single season blocks list. Nationally, he finished the regular season ranked fifth in both total blocks and blocked shots per game (3.3 bpg).
