INDIANAPOLIS (July 12, 2017) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo football team will be featured on ESPN3 and the ESPN app Sept. 30 when the Pack hosts fellow 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champions, Colorado Mesa University, announced today by NCAA Division II. The contest is one of the 22-game schedule of the 2017 Division II Football Showcase, which features games weekly on ESPN3 and ESPN app.
Preseason rankings from the Street and Smith's publication tabbed the Pack No. 8 and Colorado Mesa No. 24, hyping up the 2 p.m. kickoff Sept. 30 at the Neta & Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl. CMU was ranked No. 25 by Lindy's.
"The collaboration with ESPN provides a continued opportunity to showcase Division II's balanced student-athlete experience," said Terri Steeb Gronau, vice president of Division II. "The student-athletes who will be featured in these games have made incredible achievements on and off the field, and we're excited to share their abilities with a broad national audience on ESPN3."
The contest will mark the fourth time that the Pack will be featured on an ESPN network and fifth nationally produced game in the last four years. CSU-Pueblo is 2-1 in games aired on ESPN, as the Pack won their first game on the mothership Dec. 13, 2014 when they knocked off University of West Georgia 10-7 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl on ESPN3 to advance to the 2014 Division II National Championship game.
One week later, the Pack beat Minnesota State University, Mankato 13-0 to win their first NCAA Division II National Championship. This crowning moment aired live on ESPN2.
In 2015, the ThunderWolves were featured in the NCAA's TV lineup with their home opener against Central Washington University appearing on the American Sports Network. The Pack won 41-14. Finally, last season's opener at Colorado School of Mines was aired on ESPN3.
