Hughes and Rosenbrock named 2016 RMAC Scholar Athletes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 21, 2016) – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced Tuesday that Colorado State University-Pueblo cross country/ track & field runner Bailey Hughes (Bigfork, Mont.)  and football player Joe Rosenbrock (Brush Colo.) earned RMAC Scholar Athlete honors.

Hughes adds another trophy to her impressive resume. This announcement comes just over two months after she received the 2016 Threckled Prize for Excellence, the highest senior honor that CSU-Pueblo bestows. She holds a 3.928 GPA in liberal studies and was named team captain of the cross country team in just her second year. Hughes holds schools records in the 5K in cross country, 5K in track, 3K, mile, and distance medley relay.

Rosenbrock also claimed the RMAC Football Academic Athlete of the Year Award. He finished his career with a 3.752 GPA in Mathematics. The linebacker also collected Academic All-American from the College Sports Information Directors Association and RMAC Academic Defensive Player of the Year honors.

The RMAC's Scholar Athlete program recognizes the top male and female student-athlete at each school in the conference. To be considered for the RMAC Scholar-Athlete award, a student-athlete must compete in one of the conference sponsored championship sports; carry at least a 3.30 GPA. They must also "be a starter or reserve on their respective team; be of good character and must have participated at the active member institution for two (2) or more seasons."

Hughes Bio: Hughes began her college career at Carroll College in Helena, Mont., and transferred to CSU-Pueblo when Morris accepted the head coach position with the ThunderWolves. She has competed at two NCAA Division II championship events, as she ran in the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships and became an All-American with the distance medley relay team at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March. She was named all-region following the cross country season and in addition to her top honor with the DMR, was named all-region in the mile run and 3K. She has earned conference runner of the week recognition twice this season. Hughes was a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team member in the fall, as well as an Academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team honoree following the cross country and indoor track and field seasons.
