Pack Baseball welcomes 27 new players for 2019 season

PUEBLO, Colo. (August 15, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball has announced the signing of 27 student-athletes that will be part of the ThunderWolves 2019 roster.

Pitchers:

Rocco Arguto (So., RHP, Pueblo, Colo. / Pueblo West HS/Previous school: UCCS)

Coach Eddie Williams: "Rocco is a transfer from UCCS with a plus breaking ball. He adds depth and strengthens pitching staff."

Beau Brieske (Jr., RHP, Chandler, Ariz. / Perry HS / Previous School: Glendale (AZ) CC)

Coach Williams:  "Beau went 4-3 last year at GCC with a 3.04 era and 58 strikeouts in 56 IP. He is expected to be a rotation arm and make major contribution."

Andrew Coverly (Jr., RHP, Centennial, Colo. / Grandview HS / Previous School: Lamar CC)

Coach Williams:  "Coverly came on strong down the stretch as one of Lamar's best starters late in the year. We are looking for big things out of Andrew and for him to compete for rotation spot.

Josh Dahl (Sr., RHP, Glendale, Ariz. / Deer Valley HS / Previous school: Arizona State)

Coach Williams:  "Dahl throws consistently in the low to mid 90's. He is a two time all-star at Central Arizona CC. Josh helped CAC to runner up finish in 2011 juco WS. He is expected to make major impact on the mound."

Gary Fayard (Jr., LHP, Corona, Calif. / Norco HS / Previous School: Riverside CC)

Coach Williams:  "Gary adds depth and strengthens our pitching staff."

Logan Gibbons (Jr., RHP/OF, Taylorsville, Utah / Taylorsville HS/ Previous School: East Los Angeles College)

Coach Williams:  "Logan is a hard-throwing, two-way guy who adds depth and strengthens pitching staff."

Matt Goytia (Jr., RHP, La Puente, Calif. / Don Lugo HS / Previous School: Riverside CC)

Coach Williams:  "Matt has a plus Breaking Ball and adds depth and strengthens pitching staff."

JC Hatch (Jr., LHP, Corona, Calif. / Corona HS / Previous School: Riverside CC)

Coach Williams: "JC stands 6-7. He adds depth and strengthens our pitching staff."

Brett Matthews (Jr., RHP, Queen Creek, Ariz. / Perry HS/ Previous School: Cochise College)

Coach Williams: "Brett is a 6-5,hard-throwing versatile RHP. Matthews can make immediate impact in our rotation, or as closer. He had five saves last year and a high strikeout percentage."

Gunner Pickett (Jr., LHP, Longmont, Colo. / Mead HS / Previous College: Colorado Northeastern JC)

Coach Williams: "Gunner went 5-3 with a 2.21 ERA last season. He was named First team All-Region IV. Pickett has great stuff from the left side."

Johnny Ramirez (Jr., RHP, Henderson, Colo./ Prairie View HS / Previous school: Lamar CC)

Coach Williams: "Johnny is a bulldog bullpen guy that can put out fires."

Hunter Salinas (Fr., RHP, Austin, Texas/ Lake Travis HS)

Coach Williams: "Hunter played on a Lake Travis Team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation by Perfect Game for the majority of year."

Diego Sanchez (Jr., LHP, Whittier, Calif. / Alhambra HS / Previous School: East Los Angeles College)

Coach Williams: "Diego shut down opponents with a 1.26 ERA last season."

 Nick Zappala (So., RHP, Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek HS / Previous school: Glendale CC)

Coach Williams: "Nick is coming off of injury setback. He was a DI guy out of high school at Ball State University. Nick has high end stuff and should make a push to get into our rotation or a premiere bullpen role if he's healthy."

Catchers:

Daniel Abiles (Jr., C, Gilbert, Ariz./ Perry HS/ Previous school: Glendale CC)

Coach Williams: "Daniel was named First Team All-Region 1 and earned a national gold glove."

Stone Romero (Jr., C, Albuquerque, N.M. / La Cueva HS / Previous School: Lamar CC)

Coach Williams: "Stone hit.328 last season and is very solid defensively."

Infielders:

Colton Hill (So., INF, Highlands Ranch, Colo. / Rock Canyon HS / Previous School: Benedictine College)

Coach Williams: "Colton is a very athletic INF/OF, who will bring speed and quickness to the top of the lineup." 

Jesse Holguin (Fr., INF, Grand Terrace, Calif. / Grand Terrace HS)

Coach Williams: "Jesse was named All-Inland Empire and All Sunkist League First Team last year."

Brandon Maher (Jr., INF, Westminster, Colo. / Standley Lake HS / Previous School: Western Nebraska CC)

Coach Williams: "Brandon hit.333 with 14 doubles and three home runs."

Kodee Martin (Jr., INF, Platte City, Mo. / Platte County HS / Previous School: Colorado Northeastern JC)

Coach Williams: "Kodee posted a perfect fielding percentage last year at second base."

Chase Ratliff (Fr., INF , Spicewood, Texas/ Lake Travis HS)

Coach Williams: "Chase was the everyday 2B for Lake Travis who was ranked #1 in nation by Perfect Game for majority of year."

Reggie Williams (Fr., INF, Castle Rock, Colo./ Douglas County HS)

Coach Williams: "Reggie batted .450. He was named First Team All-Continental-League and earned All-State Honorable Mention accolades."

Outfielders:

Easton Adler (Jr., OF, Longmont, Colo. / Mead HS / Previous school: Colorado Northeastern JC)

Coach Williams: "Easton recorded a .392 average with 12 doubles. He was named First Team All-Region IX."

Adrian Martinez (Jr., OF, Salpointe Catholic HS / Previous school: South Mountain CC)

Coach Williams: "Adrian hit.290 last year. He is a very solid defender."

Rion Santamaria (Jr., OF, Yorba Linda, Calif. / Yorba Linda HS / Previous School: Midland University)

Coach Williams: 'Rion is a hard-nosed baseball player who will bring a competitive attitude to our outfield."

Utility:

Zac Hanenberg (Fr., UTL, Cañon City., Colo. Cañon City HS)

Coach Williams: "Zac was a star OF/RHP for Pueblo Loaf n Jug this summer."

Brock Rodrigues (Fr., Pueblo, Colo. / Pueblo County HS)

Coach Williams: "Brock had a.482 average, stole 23 bags and can play everywhere."
