PUEBLO, Colo. (June 25, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball recruit Daniel Abiles earned a Gold Glove from the American Baseball Coaches Association/ Rawlings.
Competing for Glendale Community College, Abiles received a Gold Glove as a catcher for the Gauchos. The ABCA and Rawlings tabbed Abiles as the top defensive catcher in NJCAA Division II.
Abiles finished the 2018 season with a .991 fielding percentage. He committed just three errors in 322 total chances and gunned down 13 runners this season. Seving as the Gauchos primary catcher, Abiles had 23 consecutive games without an error from March 1 through May 5.
At the plate, Abiles hit .331 with in 45 games and 157 at bats. Abiles clubbed three home runs and drove in 31 runs in 2018.
Abiles ranked third among Gaucho starters with a .433 slugging percentage. His .331 average was the second-best among Glendale Community College's starters.
If Abiles can duplicate his Gold Glove performance in a Pack uniform, he would be the CSU-Pueblo's first national Gold Glove winner since Chase Lacomb earned this honor at second base in 2011. Abiles will take the field for the Pack during the 2019 season.
