COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 17, 2018) – Zach Hoffman of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball team claimed Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week accolades Tuesday in the conference's weekly release Tuesday.
Hoffman (Sr., South Jordan, Utah) earned RMAC Hitter of the week honors for the first time in his career. He led the Pack to a home sweep of Colorado Christian University and nine straight wins overall.
The Pack's center fielder went 7-for-13 to hit .538 for the weekend. Hoffman stole six bases in four games. He scored seven runs and drove in four more.
Hoffman had three extra base hits with a double and two triples. He would reach base nine times, including seven hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Hoffman slugged .923 for the weekend and had a .562 on base percentage.
In game one of the four-game series against the Cougars, Hoffman had two hits including a double in three trips to the dish. The speedster swiped a career-best three bases and scored two runs.
The clean-up hitter had another 2-for-3 showing in game two Saturday. Hoffman scored two more runs and stole two more bases. With the Pack holding a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning, they turned to Hoffman to get the final three outs. Hoffman tossed a hitless, scoreless inning of relief to earn his first career save.
Hoffman added two more runs in the first game Sunday. He would hit two triples in the contest. The senior wrapped up his weekend, going 1-for-3 with another run scored and a stolen base in the series finale. He had an RBI in every game of this series.
The lefty leads the RMAC and shares second in D-II with seven triples. After his six-steal week, Hoffman vaulted up to sixth in the conference with eights stolen bases.
Thanks to his Player of the Week earning performance, Hoffman has now hit safely in each of his last 10 games. He has scored at least one run in every game during this streak. Hoffman has touched home 17 times during this streak.
Hoffman is the Pack's fifth RMAC-Player of the Week this season. He joins Billy Reyes (Jr., Yucaipa, Calif.) and Chris Devery (Jr., Saugus, Calif.) as the Pack's Hitters of the Week in 2018. Senior starters Jason Lighthall (Littleton, Colo.) and Danny Honorof (Riverside, Calif.) have both earned RMAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
After a 13-3 homestand, Hoffman and the Pack will hit the road for a four-game series at Regis University. The Pack and Rangers will start their series Friday at 3 p.m. in Denver, Colo.
