PUEBLO, Colo. (April 14, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball swept their Saturday doubleheader against Colorado Christian University at Rawlings Field. The Pack won game one by an 8-3 final and knocked off the Cougars 5-2 in the second game.

Thanks to their doubleheader sweep, the Pack extended its winning streak to seven games. The ThunderWolves currently own the longest winning streak in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They hold a 21-14 record overall with a 13-9 mark in RMAC games. The Cougars fell to 14-18 (9-13 RMAC).

Zach Hoffman (Sr., South Jordan, Utah) was a force for the Pack in every facet of the game. Hoffman went 2-for-3 in each game. He stole five bases on the day. Hoffman scored four runs and drove in two more. The lefty also picked up a save in game two with a scoreless and hitless inning of relief.

Dakota Popham (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) continued his hot streak. Popham slugged his fifth home run of the season in game one. Between the two games, Popham drove in three runs and scored twice.

RMAC and NCBWA Regional Pitcher of the Week Danny Honorof (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) earned the win in game one to improve to 3-1. Honorof surrendered just one earned run over seven innings. He struck out five.

Fellow senior Jason Lighthall (Littleton, Colo.) was equally impressive in game two. Lighthall allowed one earned run and eight hits in six innings of work. The righty did not walk a single batter, while striking out three. Lighthall earned the win to improve to 2-2.

Jorge Duarte (Sr., San Luis, Ariz.) and Gilbert Sauceda (Jr., Indio, Calif.) each had two hits and walked in game one. Duarte scored a run in each game. Sauceda drove in a run in the early contest.

Ambrose Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) shined in game two. The Pack's catcher went 2-for-2 with a walk in the nightcap. Romero doubled, drove in two runs and scored.

The Pack got off to a flying start in game one with three runs in the bottom of the first.  Colorado Christian fought back with isolated runs in the second and third to make it 3-2 heading into the bottom of the third.

Hoffman built the Pack's cushion back to two in the bottom of the third. The center fielder singled and then stole second and third. He scored on a Sauceda single to make it 4-2.

Popham homered in the fifth to make it 5-2.  The Pack added two more in the sixth courtesy of Jake Boyd (Sr., Salt Lake City, Utah.) to stake themselves to a five-run lead.

After the Cougars scored in the seventh, the Pack answered with a run of their own as Hoffman scored on a Romero ground out.  Andrew Nero (Jr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) threw two perfect innings of relief to preserve the 8-3 win for the Pack.

The Cougars got the second game's first run in the second inning. The Pack tied it in their half when Romero drove in Hoffman again.

The Pack tacked on two more in the third. Robbie Espinosa (Jr. Yorba Linda, Calif.) tripled in the fourth to bring in Romero to make it 4-2.

Colorado Christian scored in the fifth. However, CSU-Pueblo quickly added an insurance run in the sixth when Hoffman came around on a Romero double.

After scoring in the sixth, Hoffman took the mound for the Pack in the seventh. He shutdown the Cougars to clinch a 5-2 win for the Pack.

The Pack and Cougars will clash in a doubleheader Sunday. First pitch at Rawlings Field is slated for 12 p.m.
