PUEBLO, Colo. (April 7, 2018) Dakota Popham led Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball to a 5-4 win over New Mexico Highlands University Saturday at Rawlings Field.

The Pack earned their third consecutive win to improve to 17-14. They now own a 9-9 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Highlands finished the day 13-24 (8-15 RMAC).

Tanner Fuhrmann (Sr., Flagstaff, Ariz.) slugged a pair of doubles in four trips. Fuhrmann would also score the winning run in the eighth inning.

Senior Zach Hoffman (South Jordan, Utah) scored a run and drove in one more. Hoffman would also earn the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. The lefty struck out two and only allowed a hit and a walk. Hoffman's record now stands at 4-2.

Ambrose Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) and Gilbert Sauceda (Jr., Indio, Calif.) each went 2-for-4. Romero drove in a run. He now stands tied with Popham for the team lead in RBIs at 23.

The Pack and the Cowboys engaged in a pitchers duel early. Jason Lighthall (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) held the Cowboys scoreless for the first three innings.

Highlands got on the board first with a run in the fourth inning. Popham retaliated in the bottom of the fifth when he blasted a two-run shot over the left field fence. Mason Krueger (Jr., Draper, Utah) scored on Popham's jack that made it 2-1.

The ThunderWolves added to their lead in the seventh. Popham smacked a one-out double. Hoffman followed with a single to drive in Popham. With two outs, Romero cranked a double down the left field line to bring in Hoffman and make it 4-1.

After seven innings of one-run ball, the Cowboys finally got to Lighthall. Highlands brought in three runs in the eighth to tie the game. The Pack turned to Hoffman, who got the Pack out of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Fuhrmann rocketed his second double of the game. With two outs, Popham singled to drive in Fuhrmann and put the Pack ahead 5-4.

Two Cowboys reached base with one out in the ninth. However, Hoffman would strand both runners as the Pack closed out a 5-4 win.

The Pack and Cowboys will meet again Sunday at 12 p.m. at Rawlings Field. CSU-Pueblo will face Adams State University in the second half of Sunday's doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. There will be a hot wing eating contest presented by Wing Stop between games.
