GOLDEN, Colo. (March 10, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball took a pair of losses Saturday as the Pack fell to Colorado School of Mines in both games of a doubleheader. The Orediggers won game one 11-4 and dropped game two 11-2 at Jim Darden Field.
The Pack started strong in game one. CSU-Pueblo jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Dakota Popham (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) drove in Jorge Duarte (Sr., San Luis, Ariz.) with a double in the second to put the Pack up 1-0.Popham went 2-for-3 in game one.
CSU-Pueblo tacked on two more runs. Tanner Fuhrmann (Sr., Flagstaff, Ariz.) led off the inning with a solo home run. Furhmann's first blast of the season gave the Pack a 2-0 lead. They scored one more in the third as Ambrose Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) drove in Jordyn Compehos (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) with a base knock that made it 3-0.
Mines took over in the fourth with four runs. They tacked on four in the fifth and three in the sixth to cruise to an 11-4 win. The Pack's final run came in the top of the seventh when Zach Hoffman (Sr., South Jordan, Utah) drew a bases load walk. That scored Fuhrmann. Fuhrmann went 2-for-2 with a walk in game one.
Game two belonged to the Orediggers from the first inning. Mines scored one in the first. They added eight runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to make it 10-0.
Brandon Maes (R-Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) had a two-run single in the top of the sixth. Maes went 1-for-1 in his only at-bat of the day. Billy Reyes (Jr., Yucaipa, Calif.) and Morgan Smith (R-So., Aurora, Colo.) scored on Maes' single.
The Orediggers would still earn the win in game two. They closed out the Pack 11-2 in the second half of the doubleheader.
CSU-Pueblo now stands 9-11. They are 1-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Oredggers improved to 10-4 (6-1 RMAC).
