Pack Baseball sets sights on Mines in road RMAC series

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 8, 2018) –  Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball concludes its 12-game road trip with a visit to Colorado School of Mines for a four-game series starting Friday at 3 p.m. in Golden, Colo. The Pack and the Orediggers  will square off in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday. The series wraps up Sunday at 12 p.m.

The Pack holds a 9-8 record overall. They started their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference slate with a 1-3 weekend at Metro State University Denver last week. The Orediggers are 7-4 overall after a 3-1 start to RMAC play at home vs. New Mexico Highlands University.  

After a monster weekend at MSU Denver, Dakota Popham (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.)  ranks second in the RMAC with a .431 batting average. Popham went 8-for-13 (.615) with a home run, and five RBIs against the Roadrunners last week. The junior ranks fifth in the RMAC with 16 runs scored. He stands eighth in both on base percentage (.492) and slugging percentage (.667).

Ambrose Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) ranks second in the RMAC with 16 RBIs. Romero's 14 walks are second-most in the RMAC. His seven doubles rank third. The catcher has scored 15 runs, seventh most in the RMAC.

Zach Hoffman (Sr., South Jordan, Utah) leads the RMAC with four triples. Hoffman has 14 RBIs, seventh-most in the RMAC.

Gilbert Sauceda (Jr., Indio, Calif.) leads the RMAC with 16 walks drawn. Sauceda is one of the toughest players to strikeout in the conference. The first baseman has only been fanned three times.

Right fielder, Mason Krueger (Jr., Draper, Utah) has scored 19 runs, third-most in the conference.  Krueger leads the RMAC with 64 plate appearances.

On the mound, the Pack is led by Jason Lighthall (Sr., Littleton, Colo.), who has a team-best 3.18 ERA. Lighthall ranks fourth in the RMAC with 22.2 innings pitched.

Tanner Fuhrmann (Sr., Flagstaff, Ariz.) earned a save in his first appearance of the season.  Fuhrmann threw 2.1 scoreless innings. He struck out five. Chris Douglas (jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) ranks second in the RMAC with 23 strikeouts.

The Pack ranks second in the RMAC in fielding percentage. CSU-Pueblo has a .974 fielding percentage.
